Bila Haut 2018 Occultum Lapidem
94 points Jeb Dunnuck

The Occultum Lapidem is made primarily from Grenache and Syrah. Bila Haut Occultum always drinks like highly rated Chateauneuf, but you won’t ever find that on sale for under $20

“Also terrific, with lots of cassis, jammy blackberries, crushed rocks, and pepper notes, the 2018 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem is medium to full-bodied, has wonderful purity of fruit, no hard edges, and a great finish.”
-Jeb Dunnuck

Appearance: great dark garnet-red.
Nose: the first nose is quite closed with a dominant of graphite, leather, and then intense aromas of pepper, black fruits and scrubs.
Palate: The attack is rich, dense. Then the wine is fleshy and solar. The final is sappy served by delicate tannins and a great freshness.

The history of the Chapoutier family stretches back to the early nineteenth century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased an estate and some vineyards in the now famous village of Tain l’Hermitage in the Northern Rhône Valley. Marius Chapoutier made history in the region when he became the first grape grower there to vinify his own fruit.
