Description
Rioja Reserva is one of the great bargains in the world of wine. It’s aged five years before release and offers an array of attractive styles, but almost all the top wines are wildly complex. This is no exception, and this vintage might well be the best yet from Marques de Riscal.
“Complex and classy Rioja Reserva here from the historically significant Marqués de Riscal…A crunchy, taught and deliciously structured Rioja.”
-Wine Align
Intense black-cherry colour with hardly any signs of evolution. Very expressive aromas on the nose with notes of licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, with just a subtle hint of the long cask-ageing, thanks to its great complexity and ripe, concentrated fruit. Fresh and easy to drink on the palate, good backbone and lovely, polished tannins. The long, persistent finish leaves gentle balsamic reminders of the finest quality.
Blend: 96% Tempranillo, 4% Graciano
This wine goes well with ham, mild cheeses, casseroles that are not highly spiced, bean and lentil dishes, poultry, red meat, grills and roasts.
Marqués de Riscal has always been a pioneering company and a point of reference for the sector. In 1858 it had already become the first Rioja winery to make wines following the Bordeaux methods, in 1972 it was the leading winery behind the creation of the Rueda appellation.
