This is Premier Cru Burgundy from one of the top producers in the region, and it’s available at an incredible price. If you are a fan of great red Burgundy wines, you do not want to miss this. It has bright, tangy red fruit with typical Burgundian forest floor aromas and high minerality. It’s a terrific wine.
This Volnay Premier Cru 2015 reveals a medium ruby colour. The nose shows intense aromas of blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrant, and fruits of the forest along with oak. A good concentration is present on the palate. This Pinot Noir is a structured and balanced red wine with a long finish, that will express all its complexity in a few years as tertiary flavours
develop.
An elegant blend of limestone, calcareous scree, and clay-rich soils, the climate “Carelle-sous-la-Chapelle,” located mid-slope on the hill of Chaignot, creates this Volnay Premier Cru, a finely balanced and delicate Pinot Noir. Located just south of Pommard, the village of Volnay has been renowned since the 18th century.
Once vinified, the Volnay Premier Cru is placed in French oak barrels for aging. 30% of the barrels used for this cuvée are new, allowing the wine to benefit from a constant intake of oxygen. While in contact with the wood, tannins change shape. They tend to stick together, become more smooth and are less astringent over time.
