Description
Chateau du Pommard
Known to bring body and structure to the Clos Marey-Monge Monopole blend, this Grands Esprits is a high-quality Pinot Noir enjoyable on its own. With an intense ruby colour and exuberant nose of red fruits, sandalwood and sweet spices such as cinnamon and cloves, it is a full-bodied and tannic red wine. Its long finale displays notes of minerality, bringing an elegant touch to this robust cuvée.
Grands Esprits 4.81 hectares of large, round, rocky, calcium-rich soils planted between 1980 and 1990 produce a straight Pinot Noir with firm tannins and the potential for long aging. Occupying almost one-quarter of the vineyard’s overall area, the 220 rows of the Grands Esprits plot is the most calcareous area of the Clos Marey-Monge.
Hand-harvested grapes, hand-sorted on a vibrating table. 100% de-stemmed, placed into stainless steel fermentation vats by gravity flow. Weeks-long maceration, minimal pumping-over and punching-down. Pressing in a pneumatic press. Placed in French oak barrels for aging on fine lees. 16 months in 20% new French oak barrels. Not filtered.
100% Pinot Noir
